ASNY Travel Grants

Travel Grants

Travel awards (up to $500) are available to graduate and undergraduate students at any of the Member Institutions who satisfy one or more of the following criteria:

  • Students who have been awarded observing time at an optical or radio observatory and who need some travel support to get to the observatory.
  • Students who need some travel support to attend a specialized workshop or summer school.
  • Students who need some travel support to attend and present their research at an ASNY meeting.

To make an application send an email to the current ASNY Secretary, containing a request for the funds and a copy of any relevant information supporting the need for travel (i.e., a copy of the observing proposal and the award letter, details of the workshop or summer school and a statment outlining the importance of the event to the student’s research/education, or the submitted abstract, along with a a more detailed description of the project, for the presentation at the ASNY meeting). In each case a letter or email should be submitted by the student’s faculty advisor supporting the proposed travel. Funds are limited each year and awards are made on a first-come basis.
